Since The Exorcist was released in 1973, films about demonic possession have had a heightened sense of horror, making them all the more terrifying. Along Came The Devil brings the exorcism genre to a new generation.
The first and second films haunted audiences with a fresh twist on the classic exorcist story. With every film, there is a lot of effort put into the creation of it by the cast and crew. Here is everything that viewers should know about Along Came The Devil 1 and 2.

Along Came The Devil is about Ashley who after a troubled childhood searches for a connection, and unknowingly invites in a demonic force, which leaves her loved ones fighting for her soul.
Along Came The Devil 2 is about Jordan (Wiggins) who after receiving an unsettling voicemail returns home, looking for answers, only to find her estranged father and even more questions. A demonic force has attached itself to the town and no one is safe. The only one who seems to know anything is the small town’s Reverend.
Jason and Heather DeVan, a married writing team, created Along Came the Devil in 2018 and its sequel in 2019. Jason, in particular, directed both films. The married couple gave acting roles to their three sons (Patrick, Tristan, and Cassius) in the exorcism films, having their entire family involved in the projects.
Along Came The Devil 1 and 2 has a cast of mostly talented unknown actors with a few notable exceptions. Bruce Davison, an Oscar-nominated actor for the film Longtime Companion, and Matt Dallas, from Kyle XY and Baby Daddy, have leading roles as reverends in the films. Sydney Sweeney from Euphoria and The White Lotus also plays an important role in part 1. Other than those three, the cast includes Laura Wiggins, Mark Ashworth, Kylie Delre, Tiffany Fallon, and Madison Lintz.
The DeVan married couple was inspired to create Along Came The Devil after hearing about their close family friend’s experience with demonic possession. The Brazilian family told their story to the Devan family with a particular focus on the mother and daughter.
“We kept some of the strong points of what their family went through, and some of those truths start the movie right off the bat: With the little girl in the closet, and how the father used to make them sleep in the closet, and how abusive he was. We just had to use a little bit of the story, but it definitely is based on this family’s story and their amazing journey.” – Jason DeVan
Part 1 and 2 of Along Came The Devil was filmed entirely in Atlanta, Georgia on a low budget. The films were not only shot in Atlanta, but around 90% of the cast and crew hired were also from the local area. Jason and Heather DeVan are also based in Atlanta, Georgia.
In an interview with the Daily Dead, Jason and Heather DeVan that they wrote Along Came The Devil as a three part trilogy. The Covid-19 pandemic put their plans on hold for a little while but they do want to make the third film and have the series go out with a bang.
